When The Earth Quakes Big Time✍️
The thought of “The Big One,” a massive earthquake that could strike at any moment, is enough to stir anxiety in anyone. It reminds us how fragile our world is. Buildings can crumble, landscapes shift, and life can change in an instant. In the face of this kind of sudden upheaval, it's natural to feel powerless. We can’t always prevent disaster, and we can’t always predict what will happen next. And that makes us afraid. Fear is real, and natural, especially with the things/events we have no control over but it doesn’t have to rule us.
When fear creeps in, remember this:
➕ There is a refuge where your heart can rest. -Psalm46:1
➕ There is a presence that never leaves, even when the world abandons you. -Psalm 27:10
➕ There is a strength available that isn’t your own, but will carry you.- Psalm28:7
Jesus said:
“In this world you will have trouble
--- BUT ---
take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
Therefore, even when the Big One is approaching, or has already struck—we can still experience peace. That’s because true peace is not the absence of disaster but the presence of Someone greater in the middle of it. It doesn’t come from the ground beneath us remaining steady, but from a personal relationship with the One who holds us firm when everything else is shaking.
And if you’ve ever wondered whether there’s something greater than the “Big One,” something stronger than fear and more enduring than this fragile world, cheer up: the answer is a resounding yes! There has always been an open invitation for those who are searching, hurting, or questioning--an invitation from Jesus Christ of Nazareth. He offers more than comfort; He offers Himself to give you life, a purposeful life.
Pause and Ponder:
❓What is your foundation when life gets shaky?
❓What if Jesus, who sees you, knows you, and wants to carry you through, is just waiting for you to come to Him?
Lord God, 🙏
In the face of the coming Big One, I am afraid. I know You are real, and that You see me, would You help me? I don’t always know what to believe, and I feel confused. But I do know this: I need peace. I am weary of fear and doubt ruling my life. I long for something solid to stand on. Jesus, I believe You are who You say You are. Help my unbelief. Teach me to rely on You completely, unshaken by circumstances, all the days of my life. Amen.
