The Best of Both Worlds
"You can't have the best of both worlds." I frequently hear this from people who have failed to have both the blessings of a wonderful family and a fantastic career at the same time.
Many married celebrities keep their showbiz businesses alive and kicking, but their marriages are on the verge of separation or have already ended, or they have a dysfunctional family. On the other hand, some people faded from the limelight when they decided to marry and start a family.
In fact, when we look at how things are going, we find that no one receives the complete package of a great personal and professional life. "I can't have the best of both worlds"—either the family is struggling, or the career is suffering. As a result, I am convinced that this was the course of one's life. Some even use the proverb "can't have it all" to rationalize a bad marriage or family life at the pinnacle of success, or a merry house while losing their job or wealth. Realize just how the saying has influenced people's beliefs and ideals.
Is it possible, however, to have the best of both worlds?
...No way, no!
Now that's what I thought.
In the Bible, Jesus said,
"He came to give us abundant life, unlike the thief who came only to steal, destroy, and kill" (John 10:10).
Therefore, the adage, "You can't have the best of both worlds," is just one of the many pieces of human wisdom that is a fallacy. Because the Bible states the truth that God aims to give us total prosperity, the Lord's favor on those who seek Him is limitless in all of His splendor and riches in heaven.
Is there anything we couldn't have if we sought Jesus first and foremost in our lives? Of course, none! In fact, we have everything we need, as Jesus promised to give us the best of both worlds, even life eternal.
All that we are, all that we have, and all that we will ever need come from Jesus.
