The Wise Men...Three?✍️
It's the BER months, and Christmas is just around the corner. Very timely that I am currently reading the Book of Matthew in the Bible wherein the hero is the reason for our Christmas Season celebration on December 25.
However, from what I've read, the Bible makes no mention of how many wise men visited Baby Jesus. I was interested in the origins of the notion of three wise men. Could the three kinds of gifts they brought: gold, frankincense, and myrrh, have led history to conclude that there were 'three' wise men in the picture?
What if six wise men actually came to meet Baby Jesus, each bringing the same gift: two of them the gift of myrrh, while the other two brought incense, and the final two brought gold?
When it comes to facts, the Bible is the most reliable and trustworthy source. And if the number of wise men who came to see Jesus was actually three (3), why didn't God record it in the Bible, as He did when He indicated exact figures, such as:
- On the third (3rd) day, He will be resurrected from the dead.
- He went fasting for 40 days and nights.
- For three (3) days and three (3) nights, Jonah stayed in the fish's belly.
- With two (2) loaves of bread and five (5) fish, Jesus fed 5,000 men, not including the women and children.
- God created the universe in six (6) days.
- Jesus chose twelve (12) men to be His disciples.
and so on and so forth...
Perhaps Jesus did not give us the exact number of wise men because it was insignificant. Our attention should be brought to the main event of our Savior's birth, which marks the beginning of mankind's salvation by cleansing sinners and raising the dead-spirited to life.
Glory to the Giver of Wisdom through Jesus.
