May the Lord make your New Year a happy one…

Not by shielding you from sorrow and pain, 
but by strengthening you to bear it if it comes.

Not by making your path easy, 
but by making you sturdy enough to tread any path.

Not by taking hardship from you, 
but by taking all cowardice and fear from your heart.

Not by granting you unbroken sunshine, 
but by keeping your face bright even in the shadows.

Not by making your life always pleasant, 
but by showing you where men and His cause need you most, 
and by making you zealous to be there to help.

God, make your year a happy one.

A Sinner and a Saint✍️

In our Values Education or Christian Living class during my time in a Catholic school in elementary and high school, we discussed saints such as Madre Ignacia Del Espiritu, St. Rose of Lima, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Augustine, Pedro Calungsod, San Lorenzo Ruiz, and many others. They are declared saints based on religious "holiness" criteria. These martyrs fulfilled the requirements set down by the Church to be recognized as such, a process known as canonization, so they were officially granted the title of saint. After converting to Christianity in 2017, I learned I am also considered a saint. A messed up woman like me, far from being pure and countless times giving in to the temptations of anger or impatience, is a saint?! How can that be?
