One couldn't help but notice the massive billboards that line the side of the road when passing by Edsa Guadalupe in the middle of bumper-to-bumper traffic. On those billboards, some celebrities have already shown a bit of their flesh, and others are even close to being naked by exhibiting their femininity and masculinity while only wearing undergarments. What's odd is that the marketed item is so small, but the display of the exposed skin on a gigantic billboard in the middle of the road where multiple motorists can see it and potentially endanger their travels is so big. Although this marketing tactic for promoting a product is irrelevant, it is still being used since it is successful in grabbing the attention of millions of drivers. But is it really necessary to advertise a product by flaunting our bodies?
Still, I'm curious about how many sensualities surround us. Keep in mind that immorality is not restricted to billboards alone. We see women dressed provocatively in the mall or on the street. On our TVs, cellphones, laptops, and other electronic devices, intrusive small pop-up ads with seductive images of women or men in bikinis flash on our screens as we browse Google, YouTube, Facebook, or any other social media platform. Websites specializing in finding a date or match with a gallery of photos of alluring men and women to choose from are promoted. Kissing and bed scenes and obscene language are common in soap operas and movies, as is the sight of a man and woman lying in bed, only covered by blankets, implying sexual intimacy, and TV advertising advocating condoms or medications preventing pregnancy. Like me, if you feel awkward around these things, then you are on the right track. These are traps set by the deity of the world. These are the pitfalls we encounter that tempt people to engage in either fornication or adultery or become addicted to pornography.
Individuals who have problems managing the cravings of their flesh and the lust of their eyes, especially guys, are the most vulnerable. The tempting sights we see of men and women are Satan's means of invading our thoughts, and if we aren't careful, and accept his bait, it is then his entry point in our lives to make us do evil and be ensnared in our souls, missing out on piety.
I have two children: a 16-year-old boy and a 14-year-old daughter. And Satan can take advantage of their innocence by exposing them to the sexy bodies of men and women on display around them. The world may be teaching their young minds that it is acceptable to flaunt and showcase our bodies in exchange for money or to sell a product.
As a mother, I attempt to keep my children away from worldly temptations by restricting their computer and internet usage. I limit their TV viewing. If they want to watch TV, I'll be with them.
But is there really a way to protect our children from the dangers of a hostile world?
Yes, there is!
Pray hard...
Pray harder...
Pray hardest...
..... for the sake of our children's physical and spiritual well-being as well as that of future generations.
