God Made Me Laugh ✍
God wants to make us laugh. He has some funny stories in His Holy Book, the Bible, that made me "hahaha."
1. Jonah's Story.
Because Jonah was disobedient to God, He imprisoned him in the whale's tummy for three days and three nights. The whale vomited on Jonah only when he agreed to God's plan to send him to the people of Nineveh. Jonah is trying to get away from God. And of all places, amazingly, it was in the belly of the shark that God allowed Jonah to meditate. See that even the whales can be God's accomplices. I realized that indeed, God is omnipresent; we cannot flee from Him. Everywhere we turn and go, even in the most unlikely places, God is still there.
2. The Ark of the Covenant and Dagon.
One of the Bible stories that makes me chuckle every time I read it is 1 Samuel 5. After defeating the Israelites in battle, the Philistines took God's Ark of Covenant from them and placed it next to the statue of their god, "Dagon" (with the image of half a man and half a fish or merman). You know what God did to the Dagon statue? He knocked it face down on the ground. The Ashdodites awoke early in the morning and discovered this happened in front of the Lord's ark, so they again decided to put Dagon's statue back in place. only to discover the next morning that its face had once again fallen to the ground, but this time, the statue has been shattered! Since Dagon is already broken, it can no longer be built or restored. As a result, the Philistines decided to return the Ark of the Covenant to Israel because of their fear of God. Our God is a jealous God (Exodus 34:14). He doesn't want people to worship any gods or idols apart from Him. No wonder He did that to Dagon.
3. The Feeding of the 5,000 (Matthew 14:13–21)
Just imagine the disciples' faces as they complained to Jesus and worried about not having enough food to feed the crowds that followed them. At the time, they only had five loaves of bread and two fish. So they told Jesus to send the people away. But the compassionate Jesus did not want anyone to go home hungry, which led Him to perform this miracle of multiplying the five (5) loaves and two (2) fishes. Hence, everyone went home full and satisfied. The funny part is that twelve baskets were created from all of the food leftovers. 12 baskets, as in one basket for each of His twelve disciples? Perhaps Jesus gave this as a gift to each of His men—a basket of food for the twelve (12)—to silence their complaints and make them happy. God is so funny.
In the likeness and image of God, we are made. We love because the God who created us first loved us (1 John 4:19). Therefore, it is right to think that as we can crack sober jokes and be able to make others laugh, it is because the God who made us is not the serious, dull God we imagine but also witty, comical, and enjoys making His creations smile and giggle. It is nice to realize that our Creator has a sense of humor. So it is no surprise na nakapagpapatawa at palatawa rin tayo🙂
