Mother's Matter ✍️

Aside from the COVID-19 epidemic and global issues, we can notice how people lately are inconsiderate and unkind.  As prophesied in the Bible in 2 Timothy 3:1–3 about humanity in the last days, and so its happening right in front of our eyes. And these changes in the world and seasons are no longer surprising if we know the Bible.

The Bible contains information about both current and future circumstances, and reading God's Word on a daily basis alerts us and makes us aware of the signs of the times, allowing us to avoid asking, "Bakit ganito na ang mundo ngayon?" or the common parental and elderly concern, "Bakit ganito na ang mga kabataan ngayon?"

On Mother's Day, I had a video conversation with a friend who only had one child. She was disappointed that her kid, like mine, had ignored her on Mother's Day. "Nakakatamad na tuloy magluto ng handa, kasi parang tuod ng Anak ko, di man lang ako binati (ng "Happy Mother's Day"), she says, her voice trembling with emotion. I can feel her sadness and despair.

I came to realise that on that specific day for mothers, I wasn't the only one who didn't receive an HMD greeting from my kid, nor was I the only one who wasn't recognised as a mother. Given that my son ignored me, I do not doubt that many moms out there are spending that special day silently nursing their broken hearts for the same reason—that is, not being acknowledged as a woman of worth in their family. What's worse is the fact that today's youth deliberately show their mothers no affection or kindness at all, taking them for granted every single day.

Then I remembered the pastor's sermon from our church. He says that because today's youth prefer to spend time with their iPhones, iPads, or tablets over their families, they separate themselves from life's essentials. They actively engage in social media and other digital games to pursue connections while isolating themselves from the most valuable people in their lives. These are the bittersweet facts of life. So sad, but true.

In 2 Timothy 3:1–5, Paul issues a warning about human behaviour in the final days. The Bible's prophecies about the end times are coming to pass, and since the times at present are evil, don't be surprised if children nowadays are acting inappropriately. The least yet essential and powerful thing we parents and adults can do for our children or future generations is to nurture them constantly through prayer (Ephesians 5:16).
