The Crowning with Thorns.✍️
Jesus, was even made fun of as a King when the Roman soldiers made a crown of thorns for Him. This crown comes from a plant called EUPHORBIA MILII, or known by itself as the Crown of Thorns, because its stem is covered in thorns. Inside the plant's stalks is a white, sticky substance called resin that causes rashes on humans or in the worst case scenario, might cause cancer when comes in contact with human blood.
We have this kind of plant on our terrace. When it's time to prune, I carefully trim it to avoid getting stung because even the smallest of these spikes may wound the skin and hurt.
The tall Euphorbia plants have thorns that are about 30 mm long and extremely sharp; it is probable that these sizes of thorns were used for Jesus' crown. Here's the big deal though: The thorny crown they fashioned for Jesus is too small to fit His head. So the wicked soldiers thrust the crown down from the top of the head, pressing it firmly until it reached His eyes.
Imagine Jesus' suffering as each thorn pricks His head and releases sap from the plant while His blood seeps out. Given the earlier slaps and beatings He had received from Roman soldiers, as well as the poison caused by the plant used in His crown mixing in His blood, His face was swollen that it was even impossible for Him to open His eyes.
Accordingly, the crown of thorns was made mainly for the purpose of insulting Jesus as The King and not to inflict pain. (May ganun? huh!).
